Book Club

Welcome to the launch of Print and Pastries. If you are seeking a fun way for tweens/teens to connect with books and friends in a laid back environment that targets the following: vocabulary, comprehension, peer discussion, quotation analysis, and exploration of themes (with a touch of art/creativity!) you have found the right place.  The second book selection is provided below:

Book: The Call of the Wild- Jack London

THE CALL OF THE WILD BY JACK LONDON IS A CLASSIC NOVEL SET IN THE YUKON TERRITORY OF CANADA DURING THE KLONDIKE GOLD RUSH. THE STORY FOLLOWS A DOMESTICATED DOG NAMED BUCK, WHO IS STOLEN FROM HIS COMFORTABLE HOME IN CALIFORNIA AND SOLD INTO THE HARSH, WILD ENVIRONMENT OF THE NORTH.

AT FIRST, BUCK IS FORCED TO ADAPT TO THE BRUTAL CONDITIONS OF SLED DOG LIFE. HE FACES ABUSE AND LEARNS TO FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL IN A WORLD WHERE ONLY THE STRONGEST AND MOST CUNNING ANIMALS THRIVE. AS BUCK BECOMES MORE FAMILIAR WITH HIS NEW LIFE, HE BEGINS TO RECONNECT WITH HIS PRIMAL INSTINCTS.

THE NOVEL TRACES BUCK'S EVOLUTION FROM A PAMPERED PET INTO A FIERCE, WILD LEADER OF A SLED DOG TEAM. OVER TIME, BUCK HEARS THE CALL OF THE WILD, WHICH PULLS HIM AWAY FROM HIS HUMAN MASTERS AND DEEP INTO THE WILDERNESS, WHERE HE EVENTUALLY BECOMES THE LEADER OF A WOLF PACK. THE STORY REFLECTS THEMES OF SURVIVAL, THE POWER OF NATURE, AND THE CONFLICT BETWEEN CIVILIZATION AND THE WILD.

BUCK'S JOURNEY IS A STORY OF TRANSFORMATION, ULTIMATELY RETURNING TO THE WILDERNESS WHERE HE FINDS TRUE FREEDOM. THE NOVEL ENDS WITH BUCK ANSWERING THE CALL OF THE WILD, BECOMING A SYMBOL OF STRENGTH AND NATURAL INSTINCT.
